Paul Harlan Wilcox (July 4, 1906- May 23, 1974) was born in Elk Rapids, Michigan and over the course of his career became one of the leading researchers for shock treatment in the United States. His career as a psychiatrist began at the precipice of an enduring revolutionary treatment for the mentally ill: electroconvulsive therapy (also known as electroshock therapy).
