Collection is organized by place of origination of the items within the series. Content covers Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Benzie Counties. The Kingsley Branch Library retained these items and records for researchers and genealogists whose interest spreads beyond Kingsley.
The items within the Kingsley series include Village of Kingsley master plans, the bylaws of the Kingsley Farmers Market, ledgers from Kingsley businesses, and other original materials that document the social and business history of Kingsley.
Included with the Mayfield series is a lone volume in ledger format, clearly daily sales records from a store. Although the volume is unidentified, the donor, Kirk Waterstripe, grandson of Thomas R. and Blanche Peppler (of Mayfield), gifted Waterstripe with the volume, and told him it was from the Mayfield general store. There is also a significant collection of recipes, some written out in the book, and a number of clippings of same throughout the volume. Information in the store records reveals goods sold, the name of the customer who purchased the goods, and how they paid for them.
Included with the Paradise Township series is a lone volume in ledger format, that was the Civil Court Docket for Paradise Township. The volume should be handled with care, as there are a number of loose-leaf additions contained within the volume, and all appear to be relevant to the cases described in the Docket. During the years 1933 to approximately 1951, Howard Dunn acted as Justice of the Peace, and the position was acquired by Albert Hoefiln after Dunn. In addition to a number of civil case records contained within this volume, on page 361, there are 5 marriages listed as having been performed by the Justice of the Peace. In 1943, Edward Lawrence Wurm married Pearl Opal Creighton. In 1946, Carl J. Hudson of Grawn, and Pauline Olive King of Traverse City (R4), were married. In 1948, Leo Arthur Kratochvil of Traverse City married Eva Angelina Lamb, also of Traverse City. In 1951, John Leroy Dobson of Kingsley married Carol Jean Hertz of Traverse City. In 1953, Robert Wilbert Trotter of Acme married June Faye Inman of Williamsburg.
